REGULATIONS
The Electrical Supply Act of 1990 and Electrical Regulation Act of 1994 require manufacturers to apply for a Certificate of Approval and affix the SIRIM label or certification mark to the product, proving compliance with the regulatory standards.
GUIDELINES
- Test report must contain the equivalent to Malaysia Standards issued by a DSM recognized laboratory.
- Local importer makes application.
- Manufacturers should obtain COA from ST before applying for the SIRIM label or certification mark.
- There are two certification schemes accepted in order to obtain the label: SIRIM Product Certification Scheme or Batch Testing Scheme.
- When applying for electrical product certification, the test report validity is based on the risk of electrical equipment as identified by the Energy Commission. For high-risk electrical equipment, the test report shall be valid for not less than one year and not exceeding five years from the date of the test report. For low-risk equipment, the test report validity can exceed five years.

Telecom & Wireless

GUIDELINES
- Type approval is required for fixed line and wireless telecommunications products.
- Applications must be made by the local importer.
- SIRIM QAS International is the designated certification body.
- Two samples are currently required for physical inspection when applying for approval.
- Upon approval by the certification body, products must be labeled with the SIRIM label.
- EMC compliance is also required for some products.
- The SIRIM wireless product division (CMCS) utilizes the electronic Certificate of Conformity, or eCOC, process, replacing the issuance of paper certificates.

Energy Efficiency

GUIDELINES
- The product shall be affixed with an efficiency rating label.
- Applications made to ST.
- COA should be obtained under Minimum Energy Performance Standards (MEPS).
- For LED lamps, the applicant must state the efficacy value on the packaging of the product, as well as the number of LED hours tested.
- Performance testing should be done by any laboratory recognized by Standard Malaysia.
