NEMA Enclosure Testing
What is NEMA Enclosure?
NEMA is a rating and classification system that is established for various types of enclosures for electrical products. These different types of classification represent protection for devices including liquids, rain, frost, rust, and foreign matter such as soil.
We’ve included a helpful link to the NEMA ratings that your project needs. This chart will assist you in determining the required enclosure rating for the setting and application of your project.

How do you define an enclosure?
Put simply, an enclosure is a cabinet or box that protects electrical or electronic equipment and prevents electrical shock to its user. Enclosures are usually made from rigid plastics. However, they can also be made of such materials as steel, stainless steel, and aluminum. Every enclosure is rated based on its protection against hazardous, non-hazardous, and other specific environmental conditions.
How can Testing Partners help?
We will test your product for dust and water resistance according to the established rating guidelines and regulations for ingress protection. We will test that your device provides adequate protection to the user so that the product will adhere to common standards or NEMA classifications.
Don’t skip out on this step! IP ratings are also often required by sellers or retailers before a product is purchased from manufacturers. As improperly shielded or protected equipment represent a hazard to the user, this certification has a higher priority than protection against dust or water.
