Malaysia Conformity Requirements

Electrical Safety

Energy Commission Suruhanjaya Tenaga (ST)

The Electrical Supply Act of 1990 and Electrical Regulation Act of 1994 require manufacturers to apply for a Certificate of Approval and affix the SIRIM label or certification mark to the product, proving compliance with the regulatory standards.

  • Test report must contain the equivalent to Malaysia Standards issued by a DSM recognized laboratory.
  • Local importer makes application.
  • Manufacturers should obtain COA from ST before applying for the SIRIM label or certification mark.
  • There are two certification schemes accepted in order to obtain the label: SIRIM Product Certification Scheme or Batch Testing Scheme.
  • When applying for electrical product certification, the test report validity is based on the risk of electrical equipment as identified by the Energy Commission. For high-risk electrical equipment, the test report shall be valid for not less than one year and not exceeding five years from the date of the test report. For low-risk equipment, the test report validity can exceed five years.
